About Us

Canoe Slalom New Zealand (CSNZ) is the organisation that administers the Olympic sport of canoe slalom in New Zealand.

It is our aim to foster and develop the sport to an extent where New Zealand has greater representation and success at world events such as the Olympic Games, World Championships and World Cup races. To achieve this we run training camps and races in both the North and South Islands. There are entry level courses and races for beginners to the sport that are aimed at learning basic skills in a fun and safe environment.

Canoe slalom is one of the best ways to learn technical skills that with time and practice will allow you to tackle even the biggest white water. Once you have learnt the basic skills of kayaking you can then progress onto other races on the CSNZ race calendar including the pinnacle event on our calendar, the NZ Open Nationals, and for school aged children the NZ Secondary Schools Championship.

The opportunity to advance in our sport is via a well established pathway of New Zealand representative teams from the NZ U18 Junior Development Team that travels to Australia, the NZ Junior Squad that travels to Europe to compete in the Junior World Championships, and the NZ Senior Team that travels to Europe for World Cup racing and the World Championships.

For our elite athletes, there is even a chance of one day representing New Zealand at the Olympic Games. You can find out how to get started in our exciting sport by contacting your local club or one of our committee members.
