Finn Butcher led the way in the men’s kayak (K1) event, winning silver behind France’s Mathieu Biazizzo and ahead of Lucien Delfour (AUS). As the highest-placed Oceania paddler, Butcher claimed the Oceania Champion title, solidifying his place among the region’s best.
In the exciting kayak cross event, New Zealand athletes gained valuable international racing experience, competing against a stacked field. Ben Pope (AUS) and Noemie Fox (AUS) took home the Oceania kayak cross titles, while Ricarda Funk (GER) and Mathurin Madore (FRA) topped the podiums in their respective categories.
Age-Group Standouts
Nick Collier claimed the U23 men’s K1 Oceania Champion title.
James Senior secured bronze in the U23 men’s C1, finishing 12th overall in a competitive men’s final.
Rosie Rex earned silver in kayak cross and bronze in K1 the U18 women’s division.
Jayden Parker capped off the medal haul with a silver in the U18 men's kayak cross event.
Next week New Zealand hosts two ICF ranking races Aotearoa Open and New Zealand Open at the Vector Wero Whitewater Park (7-9 Feb) where athletes from Australia, China, Japan and Korea will add international depth to the competition.
