OUR STORY

Canoe Slalom New Zealand is the national sporting organisation responsible for leading and developing the Olympic disciplines of canoe slalom and kayak cross in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We work across the sport — from community participation and club development through to high-performance programmes — supporting people at every stage of their paddling journey.

Our Vision

A thriving canoe slalom community at all levels.

This vision guides everything we do, from grassroots participation to international performance.

Our Purpose

Canoe Slalom New Zealand exists to support, motivate, and develop a diverse, thriving, and successful paddling community.

We aim to create environments where people feel welcome, challenged, and supported — whether they are discovering the sport for the first time or representing New Zealand on the world stage.

Our Values

Our values shape how we work, how we make decisions, and how we treat one another.

Respect & Trust

We value integrity, honesty, and accountability in all relationships. We work in ways that build trust, respect people and place, and uphold the standards expected of a national sporting organisation.

Inclusivity & Connection

We are committed to creating a sport where everyone feels they belong. We value connection — between people, clubs, communities, and waterways — and recognise that diversity strengthens our sport.

Dedication & Accountability

We are dedicated to continuous improvement and take responsibility for our actions. We hold ourselves accountable to our athletes, members, partners, and communities as we work toward shared goals.

Our Commitments

Canoe Slalom New Zealand recognises Te Tiriti o Waitangi and we are committed to embedding its principles of partnership, participation, and protection within our work.

Our Strategic Focus

Our strategy is centred on people, pathways, and performance.

Through this approach, we are focused on:

Strengthening clubs and community participation

Providing clear and connected development pathways

Supporting athlete, coach, and official development

Enabling sustainable high-performance success

Prioritising wellbeing, integrity, and athlete voice

This ensures canoe slalom can grow in a way that is both inclusive and ambitious.

Looking Ahead

Canoe slalom in Aotearoa has a strong foundation and a positive future.  As the sport continues to evolve, Canoe Slalom New Zealand remains committed to supporting a connected community, developing people at all levels, and creating opportunities for success — on and off the water.
