NZ Secondary Schools & National Championships – Easter in Kawerau

Canoe Slalom New Zealand is looking forward to welcoming athletes, whānau, and supporters to Kawerau this Easter, with a full week of activity on the Tarawera River.

The week begins with the NZ Secondary Schools Championships, bringing together students from across the country to connect, challenge themselves, and enjoy time on the water. It’s a great opportunity for young paddlers to gain experience, build confidence, and be part of a supportive and fun environment.

Over Easter weekend, the event continues with the National Championships. This is a chance for paddlers of all levels to come together, reconnect with the community, and enjoy racing in a relaxed but exciting setting. Alongside the racing, it’s about shared experiences – catching up with friends, supporting each other, and spending time outdoors.

Why Kawerau?

Set on the Tarawera River, Kawerau offers a unique natural environment that makes it ideal for canoe slalom. With its flowing water, welcoming community, and strong connection to the awa, it creates a special atmosphere for everyone involved.
